While most of us are familiar with the Advent hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” few may realize just how ancient its text is. It is an English versification of a Latin hymn that in turn is based on an early church text known as “O Antiphons”. Antiphons are seven short chants that invoke a different title for Jesus. They are used liturgically in many churches in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Follow along as we explore four antiphons during the Advent season.
