Pastor Randy Bergsma – Sunrise Pastor
“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’” — Acts 17:26-28
Growing up in the military I’ve lived in over twenty different places from Hawaii, to Connecticut. This verse reminds me that there is a personal God in control of all things in my life including where I am and when I am. Each one of us was made on purpose by a God who loves us!
Kelli Huffer – Office Administrator
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’” — Jeremiah 29:11
This verse is a great comfort to me. It is easy to get caught up worrying about what is in store, yet we have no cause to worry, because God already knows the plans He has for us. Plans that are even better than our own. I have been amazed at how this has been true in my life, and rest in the peace of His provision, instead focusing on serving my Savior where He has placed me.
Kelli VanDuyne – Director of Children’s Ministry
“For You created my inmost being; You knit me in my mother’s womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully & wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” — Psalm 139:13-14
This verse is precious to me, because it reminds me that God created each human on purpose and with value. No life is an accident, young or old. Using the word ‘knit’ shows me that, not only did He create me, but He took great care and precision in doing it. How glorious that God would be so intimately involved in my life and in each life around me!
Mike O’Shaughnessey – Director of Youth Ministry & Congregational Life
“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
— Psalm 46:10
This verse encourages me to “be still” and remember God’s promises. One of those promises is the assurance that God will be exalted. Nothing is too big or too overwhelming for Him, as the battle has already been won through the extraordinary life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ! Even in the most chaotic of times in my life, God has calmed my spirit, assuring me of His sovereignty.
Kaitlyn Thompson – Worship Director
“That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” — 2 Corinthians 12:10
During my younger years, I frequently felt alone. The reason for this was that it was very difficult for me to make friends. I was constantly made fun of because I refused to partake in worldly “pleasures” and would stand up for myself and my Christ if negative things were being spoken. Since then, I have learned to delight in the hardships that I suffer for Christ, because I know He will make me strong. He is a just God, and I have complete knowledge that I will be rewarded one day for my faithfulness.
Janet Mann – Bookkeeper
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” — Proverbs 3:5-6
This verse reminds me that God has perfect timing and that I need to trust him completely in all things. What a comfort it is to trust in an all-powerful, all-loving God. The more we trust, the more He amazes!
Cathy Vyn – Kids Hope USA Director
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28
God has encouraged me in my roles as Director of Kids Hope USA to use my gifts and accept His timing. My confidence to serve children and volunteering adults in these ministries. That confidence is rooted in His promise in Romans 8:28. God has and will continue to provide!
