Pastor Randy Bergsma
“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’” — Acts 17:26-28
Growing up in the military I’ve lived in over twenty different places from Hawaii, to Connecticut. This verse reminds me that there is a personal God in control of all things in my life including where I am and when I am. Each one of us was made on purpose by a God who loves us!
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’” — Jeremiah 29:11
This verse is a great comfort to me. It is easy to get caught up worrying about what is in store, yet we have no cause to worry, because God already knows the plans He has for us. Plans that are even better than our own. I have been amazed at how this has been true in my life, and rest in the peace of His provision, instead focusing on serving my Savior where He has placed me.

“A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.” — Proverbs 25:11
This verse is vivid to me, and I like visualizing what it would look like. As I serve in the children and worship ministries at Sunrise, I realize the importance of building up all of those who serve alongside me, most of them volunteers. I highly value them, and try to communicate with them in ways which build them up, allowing them to believe they are valued by many, but mostly by their Lord and Savior. This, of course, applies to all of our children at Sunrise too!

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
— Psalm 46:10
This verse encourages me to “be still” and remember God’s promises. One of those promises is the assurance that God will be exalted. Nothing is too big or too overwhelming for Him, as the battle has already been won through the extraordinary life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ! Even in the most chaotic of times in my life, God has calmed my spirit, assuring me of His sovereignty.
Kids Hope USA Director
God has encouraged me in my roles as coordinator of Children’s Worship and director of Kids Hope USA to use my gifts and accept His timing. My confidence to serve children and volunteering adults in these ministries is rooted in His promise in Romans 8:28. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” I trust God to provide.
