Sunrise has partnered with Buckner International since 2007 to send Mission Teams to Peru to minister to and befriend those in orphanages and children’s homes. Every year for one week, Sunrise ministers at two homes in Lima, Peru: the first is a home for girls ages 11-17, who have been abused and now have babies; and the second is an orphanage for siblings who have either lost one or both parents, or whose parents cannot afford to care for them.
Since 2015, Buckner has asked our team to spend time in Pamplona and Villa Hermosa. These are very underprivileged areas of Lima with very real hardship and poverty. We spend a full day or two in each place, visiting families, hearing their stories and praying with them. Materialistic aid is necessary at times, and the Bible clearly calls us to act in that way, but we also know of another kind of help that will last throughout eternity…the gospel of Jesus Christ!
