Nursery Ministries

Children are a vital part of Sunrise, and we strive for excellence in every program we offer.  The Sunrise nursery provides childcare for infants to age 3 (36 months) during our worship service and also during the Sunday School hour.  The nursery is divided into two sections: Infant and Toddler.

Infant
Our Infant Nursery is for newborn to the walking stage. It is always staffed with two or more women who will lovingly care for your child. Click here for more information about what to expect in our nurseries.

Toddler
Our Toddler Nursery is for walkers through 24 months of age. It is always staffed with two or more adults and a student helper, and features lots of toys and books to keep your little one busy! Click here for more information about what to expect in our nurseries.

What to bring
When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:
  1. Two or three disposable diapers. No cloth diapers, please.
  2. Pacifier or other item, should your child need it for security.
  3. A complete change of clothes in case your child would require that.
  4. For infants: A bottle of milk, formula, juice or water.
  5. Our toddlers may also visit the playground, weather permitting.  Please send a jacket or sweater with your child during cooler weather.
Please label all personal items with your child's first and last name before arriving at the nursery. This helps us keep track of your child's items.

Your Child's Health
We operate a well-baby program. We request that you not place your child in the nursery while they are at risk of exposing other children to any illness.  For the protection of all the children in our ministry we cannot accept a child with a fever, rash, diarrhea or any other signs of illness. Thank you in advance for helping us keep our nursery program a healthy place for all.

When You Arrive At the Nursery
A nursery volunteer will meet you at the check-in counter to receive your child and any other necessary items. Please check in and note any information that will help in caring for your child such as feeding times, sleeping times, allergies and special needs.

At the time of check-in, you will be given a pager which has an identifying number on it.  If you are needed to return to the nursery, you will be paged.  The pager will vibrate, so please hold or wear the pager at all times.  The nursery volunteer will apply an adhesive name tag to your child's back with his or her name on it and your pager number.

Saying Good-bye

After you have completed the check-in process, simply wave a quick good-bye and leave for the worship service. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when leaving a parent. This does not last long, and separation becomes easier over time. Our volunteers will immediately try to create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return after the worship service is completed. If your child cries for an extended period of time of 10 minutes, we will page you.

Checking On Your Child

Feel free to check on your little one at any time during the worship service. In the door to each nursery, there are one-way windows that will allow you to see your child without your child seeing you.

Snacks
Snacks are provided for the children once they graduate to the Toddler Nursery. The food items consist of water and Cheerios or animal crackers for our new walkers through 2 year olds. If your child has an allergy, please inform the leader when you check in your child.

Picking up Your Child

The nursery volunteer will expect the same person to drop off and pick up each child unless special instructions are given at check-in.  We ask that you present the pager upon return to the nursery.  We will verify that the number on your pager matches the number on your child's name tag and then release your child to you.  A child will not be released to a parent without presentation of the assigned pager.

Please make sure that all your child's personal items have been returned to you before you leave the premises. Lost and found items will be retained for a short time.
